Meeting Minutes 02/15/2011

Rochester Intermediate School
PTO Meeting
February 15, 2011
I.        Treasurer’s Report: Sally Cray
Sally reported that the PTO received some final deposits, which put the Winter Carnival at a $12 profit.  Mrs. Becker requested $106.80 to complete the donations on donorschoose.org for a document camera for her special education classroom. PTO approved the $106.80 to complete the camera purchase. The ending checkbook balance is $42,733.74

II.      Future Problem Solvers: Mary Denney
RIS has 3 teams going to the state meet in Normal, IL. Overall, there are 92 teams competing.  Mary reported that this year the contest will not be held at Illinois State University due to another event being held there at the same date. Instead, it will be at the Marriott in Normal. Mary also reported that with the event being moved, the students will now need hotel rooms to stay in since they will not be staying at the university. She estimated a need for 4 rooms at the Marriott at around $119 each. They have also raised the fee for the competition to $55 per student. The students will also have to pay for meals. They will be attending the competition on April 15th and 16th. Discussion about whether PTO could pay for the rooms in addition to the entrance fees occurred. It was decided by vote that the PTO would donate $1448 to go toward the Future Problem Solvers State Competition. This number was obtained by taking the remaining money budgeted towards future problem solvers ($980) plus the remaining funds from the move ($468). We will have to look at this for budget next year.

III.    Winter Book Fair: Donna Spurlock
Donna reported a great book fair with over $7200 in sales and over 650 books sold. The PTO discussed how to distribute the funds. No decisions were made at this time.

IV.    Playground
The PTO had some discussion about possible ways to raise money for a playground for the intermediate school. No decisions were reached at this time.

V.      Box Tops: Heather Archey
Heather reported that they are still counting box tops. The winners will receive their choice of a pizza party or an ice cream sundae party.

VI.    Prime Time Reading
Everyone thought that the event went really well. The big hit of the night was that some of the football players came and read their favorite stories.

VII.  Teacher Appreciation/ISAT’s
ISAT’s will be moved back a week due to all of the snow days. Discussion occurred about these two events.

Meeting adjourned at 8:25 P.M.
