Rochester Middle School
PTO Meeting
September 14, 2010
I. Principal’s Report: Mrs. Lundin
Mrs. Lundin reported that there are 575 students this year at the middle school. Upcoming events reported included the 6th grade going next week to Rock Springs for snow flurry. The PTO is paying for the trip for the students to attend. Next year, three days will be required for the trip due to the size of the class. The PTO is also paying for one field trip per grade. 4th grade decided to go to New Salem and 5th grade has decided to go to the Lincoln Presidential Museum. 6th grade still needs to decide. Other items reported were that the Ames web screening is finished, and a bridge program is being developed for Math. Since the middle school did not make AYP this year, a state plan is being developed for how the school will address that. Also, Amy Forte has joined the RTI team. Progress on the new middle school was also reported. The second floor is painted and cabinets are in. In the 4th and 5th grade wings, they are still dry walling. The gym floor is also near completion. Windows are in and the roof is on. They are hoping to have it completed in October or November. PBIS is in its first full year and is going well. There will be quarterly celebrations, as well as random ones. The students were taught expectations of their behavior throughout the school day. Mrs. Lundin reported a good start to the school year.
II. Treasurer’s Report: Sally Cray
Sally reported preliminary numbers from the fundraiser. As of today, the sales of the fundraiser are around $65,000. This is almost $20,000 more than last year. We will know our profits at a later date. Also, our financial paperwork was sent to the district, as per the new fundraising policy. The money grab and Limo Lunch Dates were also set.
III. Boxtops and Labels
The PTO needs a chairperson for this position. We are planning on having a blitz in October.
IV. Directory
The PTO Directory is finished. If anyone wants a printed copy it is $5.
V. Fall Book Fair
The Fall Book Fair will be September 27-October 1. Jean Moser and Donna Spurlock are the co-chairs. We will use the funds to purchase a Smart Board for each grade in the new school.
VI. Playground
The new school will have basketball courts and four square. There will not be any playground equipment as of now. The PTO discussed different ideas to raise money for playground equipment.
VII. Fall Fun Party
The Fall Fun Party will be held on September 24th from 8:15-11:30. Inflatables are ordered and the volunteers are arranged. Refreshments will be Rice Krispies and juice.
